Eunice - Our hearts are filled with sorrow as our family announces the passing of our loving Father, Husband, Brother, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend, Allen Paul Ortego on December 24, 2018 at Oakland Nursing Home at the age of 88. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 1 pm on Friday December 28, 2018 at Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery with Pastor Dave Smith.

Allen was born on April 14, 1930 to John Edward Ortego and Josephine Daisy Tate Ortego in Tate Cove, LA. He was one of 15 children. Allen was a native of Ville Platte and a resident of Eunice for over 45 years, and proudly served the United States Army as a Staff Sargent during the Korean Conflict and received a purple heart for being wounded in combat. Allen was retired from farming and the insurance industry. Upon retirement, he ran Eunice's food bank for many years and enjoyed helping others through that office. To know him, was to love him. He was also on the Eunice Zoning Board for 20 plus years, as well as a member of St. Thomas Moore Knight of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight.

He will be truly missed by all lives he has touched, especially his four sons, Paul Blane Ortego, of Baton Rouge, Daniel Dean Ortego, (Jane) of Eunice, Michael Lloyd Ortego, (Sandra) of Destin, Florida and Craig Anthony Ortego of Lafayette; twelve grandchildren, Town Ortego, Ben Ortego, Marshal Ortego, Margaret Ortego, of Baton Rouge, Crystal Ortego, of Ville Platte, Daniel Ortego, (Brittany) of Monroe, Brent Ortego, of Eunice, Katie Ortego, of Lafayette, Kristal Ortego, of Orlando, Florida, Dr. Kayla Shipley (Tanner), Blake Ortego, and Karaline Ortego, of Lafayette; four great granddaughters, Cali Ortego, Aubri Ortego, of Monroe, Emma and Quinn Shipley, of Lafayette; as well as extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Geraldine Bertrand "Gerry" Ortego, his parents, John Edward (Ned) Ortego, and Josephine Daisy Tate Ortego, as well as fourteen siblings, Marie Angaline Deshotel, Omerine Dare, Louis Joseph Ortego, Lee Ola West, Marie Ortego (infant), John Edward Ortego Jr., Lee Ortego, Joseph Ortego, George Ortego, Isabella Veillon, Lucille Foret Guillory, Paul Douglas Ortego, O'Neal Herman Ortego and O'Neal Henry Ortego.

His six grandson's (Brent, Daniel, Blake, Town, Ben and Marshal Ortego) will be his pallbearer's and his grand-son-in-law will serve as his honorary pallbearer.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on December 27 (Thursday), 2018 from 10 am until 9pm and again on December 28 (Friday), 2018 from 9am until time of services. Pastor Dave Smith will be officiating.
