A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile, LA with Father Kennan Brown, Celebrant.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Basile, LA from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and again on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, from 8:00 am until time of services. A rosary will be recited by the Catholic Daughters of St. Augustine Church at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Rite of Committal will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Iota, LA, immediately following the ceremony.
Betty was born on November 24, 1942, the fourth of five daughters to Fernest and Agnes Ardoin of Basile. She attended Basile High School, was a majorette, and married her high school sweetheart, Olan Andrus Veronie, on July 23, 1960, after they graduated.
Making their home in Tepetate, Betty was the wife of a farmer and later worked for The Basile Weekly. She rounded out her career as a Medical Records Analyst for Savoy Hospital in Mamou, LA for 18 years. She is also the owner of Trapper’s Bar & Grill in Tepetate. She thoroughly enjoyed hosting both the Basile Mardi Gras and Tee Mamou Mardi Gras Krewes, just as she did with her husband Olan before he passed away.
The couple was recognized for their dedication to the Basile Mardi Gras, as well as Basile Chapter of Friends Supporting Friends organization. They felt strongly about giving back to the community which had given so much to them over the years. Both she and Olan were lovers of Cajun French Music, and in their younger years were avid dancers at their favorite watering holes, Main Street Bar and Four Corners Bar.
Betty was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and a favorite patron of the Basile Library. Her labor of love was cooking for family, especially Sunday lunch. She also enjoyed sewing, making jewelry, and reading. In earlier years, she enjoyed gardening and making wine with her husband, Olan and the rest of the family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Olan of 60 years, and four sisters and their husbands: Mardrie Bergeron and husband, Nesby, Mable Bertrand and husband, Joe, Joyce Christ and husband, Walter, and Brenda Bertrand and husband, Russell. Also, her husband’s parents, Horace and Liz Veronie, and sister-in-law, Brenda Veronie Miller and husband, Preston.
She is survived by her children: Vicki Little and husband, Brent of Grand Lake, John Veronie, Shara Dawn Baker and husband, Wade, Jim Veronie, and Barry Veronie, all of Basile. Along with grandchildren: Ashlen Pousson and husband, Brent, Baylee Baker, Kyle Little, Javen Little, Blair Moreau and husband, Myles, Jacob Veronie and wife, Nicole, Noah Veronie, Elijah Veronie, Mikala Veronie, Lizzie Veronie, and great grandchildren—Emilia and Jack Pousson, Angelle and Jacques Moreau, and another Veronie great-grandchild on the way. Her love of family defined Betty, and she adored her sisters’ children and their families as much as her own.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Kyle Little, Javen Little, Jacob Veronie, Noah Veronie, Elijah Veronie, and godson Tony Bertrand.
