Corwin Damian Ortego

With heavy hearts the family of Corwin Damian Ortego sadly announces his passing on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Oaklane and Rehabilitation Center in Eunice. He was 62. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Entombment will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Father Keenan Brown as Celebrant.

 Corwin was a graduate of Basile High School from the class of 1980. His love for football, especially the Bearcats, shone brightly as he passionately supported his sons' games. The outdoors held a special place in his heart - whether tending to the rice fields or enjoying leisurely afternoon rides.

 Above all else, Corwin cherished moments spent with his family, finding true joy in the presence of his children and grandchildren. His warmth and love touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Corwin will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those whose lives he brightened with his kindness and love especially his wife of forty-three years, Deneen Ortego of Basile; six children, Dustin Ortego and wife, Amy of Eunice, Chesly Ortego and wife, Haley D. and Hunter Ortego and wife, Haley S of Basile, Mason Ortego and wife, Caroline of Eunice, Carly Pelloquin and husband, Trenton and Landon Ortego and wife, Taylor of Basile; three brothers, Michael Darwin Fontenot and wife, Karen of Basile, Cornell Fontenot and wife, Cindy of Iota and Bernard Ortego of Basile. The twenty-eight joys of his life, his grandchildren, Hunter, Hayes, Elly, Evie, Jynlee, Hudson, Annabeth, Dallas, Davis, Marilyse, Corwin, Adilee, Mallory, Harper, Millie, Anne-Katherine, Vivienne, Madelyn, Owen, Luke, Chase, Kate, Ty, William, Grant, Ellis, Emmett and Tate; as well as extended family and dear friends.

 Preceded in death by his parents, Carrol (Black) and Fenetta Fruge Ortego. 

 In accordance with the wishes of the family, a visitation to pay respects and offer condolences will take place at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Basile. A visitation will be held on Friday, 28th of June from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and again on Saturday, 29th of June starting at 6:00 am until the time of services. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Friday. 

 Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Basile, located at 1210 South Ryan St. (337)432.6726, will oversee the arrangements with grace and compassion as we come together to celebrate the life of Corwin Ortego.
