EUNICE-It is with heavy hearts the family of Deacon Robbie Leger, age 63, announces his passing on Friday, August 25, 2023, at the Oaklane Wellness and Rehabilitation Center with his beloved family at his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church of Padua in Eunice with Father Tom Voorhies, Celebrant and Deacon Gary Gaudin. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery with Father Jude Thierry, Celebrant.
Deacon Robbie was born in Elton on September 14, 1959, to the late Elvy Joseph and Leola David Leger, one of eight children. He was a 1978 graduate of Elton High School and remained in the area where he continued to dedicate himself to the community and church. He was ordained a Deacon on September 9, 2006, and was a Benedictine Oblate of the Mother of Redeemer Monastery in Prairie Rhonde. He was a policeman for three years in Basile and was a catechism teacher for over ten years and taught RCIA in Basile, Eunice, and Iota. Deacon Robbie was involved in many things, such as becoming a Cursillo Professor, faith renewals, ACTS, and was in charge of the Youth Group and Life Teen at St. Anthony Catholic Church. He made many pilgrimages and missions all over the world and was the first Deacon at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile and at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota. He retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and enjoyed playing the guitar, was a member of the Eunice Community Choir and the Eunice Players Theater.
The lives Robbie touched through his years as Deacon Robbie are beyond measure - but his most important role was that of Husband, Father, and Grandfather to his dear family. He is survived by his wife of almost 42 years, Becky Langley Leger of Eunice; daughter, Kinsi Leger Heaton and husband, Alex of Ethel; brothers, Tim Leger and wife Winona of Basile, Brian Leger and wife, Angie of Roberts Cove, Thomas Leger and wife, Annette of Westlake, and Barry Leger and wife, Kristi of Ville Platte; sister, Priscilla Parker and husband, Dr. Stan Parker of Fredericksburg, TX; grandchildren, Amelie, Alex, and Able Heaton; mother-in-law, Iris Langley of Basile; as well as extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Leger and wife, Patsy; sister, Joanie Leger Poche; and father-in-law, John Langley.
At the request of the family, a visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Saturday, August 26 from 4:30 pm until 8:00 pm with an ACTS Rosary at 6:30 pm. Sunday, August 27, from 9:00 am until 8:30 pm with a Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3:00 pm and a Cursillo Rosary at 7:00 pm. On Monday, August 28 visitation will begin at St. Anthony Catholic Church from 8:00 am until time of services.
Pallbearers include Timmy Leger, Stan Parker, Barry Leger, Alex Heaton, Steve Thompson, and Richard Miller and Honorary, Edward Fontenot, Jr.
