BASILE~It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Della Fontenot announces her passing on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Acadian Medical Center at the age of 88. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 01, 2018 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Entombment will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Msgr. Robert Romero Celebrant.

Mrs. Della grew up during the Great Depression and was a lifelong resident of Basile. She was a beloved mother and Granny who loved playing with her grandkids after school and at Sunday lunch, especially the new babies as they came along. She had a career at Basile State Bank until her retirement in the early 1990s. Mrs. Della and her husband, Mr. Abney, also ran a small store for some time. They were married for 59 years until his death.

In her younger years, Della was a creative perfectionist who grew beautiful flower gardens, was a prolific seamstress, and crocheted blankets and made quilts for her loved ones. Her downtime was spent playing cards, reading paperback novels, drinking coffee on the porch with friends, feeding the ever-present backyard stray cat, sitting next to her husband while they watched TV, and praying the rosary.

She leaves a wonderful legacy of love and care, especially for her loving children, Iris Vidrine of Lafayette, Candace Klumpp and husband, Ronnie, Sidney Fontenot and wife, Kaylin and Norma LeBleu and husband, Brent all of Basile; the nine joys of her life her grandchildren, Eric Kyle Vidrine, Aimee Broussard, Veronica LeBleu, Abby LeBleu, Lindsey Fontenot, Robert Fontenot, Catherine Fontenot, Jennifer Yellott and Thea Fontenot and eleven great grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Abney Fontenot; granddaughter, Rachael LeBleu; parents, Linzy and Vinus LaFleur Bertrand and a brother Hugh Bertrand.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Basile on Friday, August 31st from 4:00pm until 10:00 pm and again on Saturday, September 1st from 6:00 am until time of services. The Catholic Daughters will lead a Rosary at 6:00 pm on Friday.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, and for those who desire, donations may be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church for masses for their mom.
