EUNICE~It is with the heaviest hearts that the family of Donald "Smitty" Smith announces his sudden passing on Saturday, March 03, 2018 at the age of 67. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 06, 2018 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Thomas More Catholic Cemetery with Father Sensat Celebrant.

Donald known to many as "Smitty", proudly served his country in the United States Army under Company A, 2d Battalion, 1st Infantry, 196 Infantry Brigade APO. He received the Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal and Expert(Rifle). He was a decorated Vietnam veteran and he believed in justice. He retired from the Eunice Police Department after twenty five years. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted and loving wife of forty seven years, Jan Smith of Eunice; his three children, Derrick Smith and wife, Elizabeth of Spring, TX, Jamie Manuel and husband, Ed of Eunice and Jody Smith and wife, Beth of Winnie, TX; two brothers, Ed Smith and wife, Kelly and Lynn Smith and wife, Ellen all of Eunice; four sisters, Betty Bergeron and husband, Levins of Church Point, Linda Vidrine of Basile, Judy Brinkley and husband, Carl of Wichita Falls, TX and Pat Fuselier and husband, Norris of Eunice; the six joys of his life, his grandchildren, Brennon and Duke Smith, Joshua and Blake Viator, Laura-Kate and Emily Manuel; as well as extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosevelt and Ethel Cormier Smith.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, March 5th from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm and again on Tuesday, March 6th from 8:00 am until time of services. Deacon David Guillory will recite a Rosary at 7:00 pm Monday.
