EUNICE- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gary Neal Marcantel announces his passing on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at his home with loving family by his side at the age of 69. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Burial will follow in the St. Thomas More Cemetery with Father Hampton Davis, Celebrant.
Gary Marcantel, born December 27, 1956, in Mamou, Louisiana, was the beloved son of the late Mitchell and Elverta Landreneau Marcantel. Gary cultivated a deep love for nature—raising birds, especially doves, working in his yard and tending gardens, and nurturing the world around him. His culinary skills, especially his renowned boudin, brought joy to many. A dedicated worker, Gary spent most of his career at Eunice Superette, eventually overseeing operations as manager, and later contributed his skills at Eunice Poultry. He also cherished time camping, cooking, and sharing coffee with friends. Gary’s legacy is marked by his generous spirit and willingness to help others, ensuring he will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.
Gary will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife of fifty-one years, Madeline Carriere Marcantel of Eunice; his son, Brandon Marcantel and wife, Judi of Ville Platte; his daughter, Tiffany Marcantel and significant other, Kent Thibodeaux of Esterwood; his sister, Faye Byrd of Eunice; his grandchildren, Paisley Bollich, Evelyn Bollich, Hailey Marcantel, Bella Marcantel, and Lily Marcantel; and his canine companion, Teebo; as well as extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Charles Marcantel and Lynn Bertrand.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm, and again on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 8:00 am until time of services. Deacon Gary Gaudin will pray a rosary at 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
