Gregory “Honeybee” Bollich passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17th, 2026, at his home, surrounded by family. He was 87 years old. Honeybee was born in Mowata, Louisiana, as part of a farming family of 13 children. He attended St. Michael Catholic School in Crowley, Louisiana. He was named outstanding running back in 1956-57. He was also a member of the St. Michael boxing team, along with several of his brothers. He attended McNeese State College in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He was a champion steer wrestler, bareback rider, and bull rider, and a member of the McNeese National Championship Rodeo Team. He was inducted into the McNeese Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2003.
Honeybee farmed soybeans, wheat, milo, rice, and crawfish until his retirement in 2004. He was named Lion’s Club Farmer of the Year in 1991. He loved hunting, particularly when it afforded him the opportunity to spend time with friends and family.
He was a faithful, life-long member of the Catholic Church. He was an avid supporter of St. Edmund Catholic School, even driving the Bluejay bus for sporting events for years. He was part of the booster club and enjoyed the camaraderie that came with cooking for their fundraisers.
Honeybee was known for his straight-forward, no-nonsense approach to life. He also had a wicked sense of humor and loved telling stories. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He quietly took care of people in need as a matter of course. He will be truly and sorely missed by all who loved him.
