AT THE REQUEST OF THE FAMILY, EVERYONE MUST WEAR A MASK

Haguillory “Haye” Fontenot of Mamou, LA passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 15, 2022 “pulling a Hank Snow” at the age of 96 years old.  He was born on September 2, 1925, in Vidrine, LA. A Celebration of Haye’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery with Deacon Gary Gaudin, officiating.

After graduating high school, he proudly served his country in the Army Air Force until the end of WW II.  He reenlisted and completed his term of service.  Upon returning home, he began a career in welding.  He married and had 4 children.  Upon retiring he continued his service to others by transporting service members to their VA appointments and volunteered with his local fire department.  He was a member of the VFW post 8971.  A true simple Cajun man, he enjoyed gardening, farming, fishing, hunting, frogging, cooking, and dancing to Cajun music.  He especially enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren referring to them lovingly as “Crapeaus”, a Cajun term for toad.  He wore his WW II cap daily and enjoyed eating boudin, cracklins, fig preserves, and donuts.  He remained active and “rolling on ball bearings” to the very end and delivered meals on wheels until he was hospitalized.   His smile, humor, positive attitude, and quick Cajun wit will be missed.

Haye “Pappy” Fontenot is survived by three daughters: Trudy Fontenot Penn, Kathy Fontenot Territo, Christy Fontenot Holcomb, and son-in-law Richard Holcomb; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Fontenot; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Alcee Fontenot and Ludie Daire Fontenot; his siblings Howard Fontenot, Cecile Vidrine, Lessie Guillory, Autry Lee Fontenot, and Isom Fontenot, his son Danny Fontenot, and 5 great grandchildren.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Saturday, January 29th from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm.  The VFW post 8971 will conduct a service at 12:30 pm.
