EUNICE~It is with heavy hearts that the family of Helen Jane Savant announces her passing on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Eunice Manor at the age of 90. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, June 12, 2026, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary cemetery.
Helen Fontenot, born on April 23, 1936, in Ville Platte, Louisiana to the late Elbie and Elise Latiolais Fontenot, was a woman whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her. She had a deep love for flowers and decorating, bringing beauty and brightness to every space she graced. Her culinary talents were equally cherished, especially her beloved tradition of making Christmas candy each year. Helen’s thoughtful baskets of homemade treats were gifted to friends, neighbors, and local businesses, spreading holiday cheer throughout her community. A true people-person, she found great joy in connecting with others and sharing lively conversations. Helen’s legacy of love, kindness, and heartfelt generosity will be remembered and celebrated by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Helen is survived by her children, Mitch Savant and wife, Cathy of Eunice, Greg Savant of Butte La Rose, and Paula Savant Rehms and husband, Gary of Vidalia; four grandchildren, Jeigh Minix, Ashley Melancon, Garrett Savant, and Bonnie Edmonds; ten great grandchildren, Anna Grace Bonvillain, Adelyn Bonvillain, Beau Melancon, Zoey Melancon, Audrey Savant, Jaxon Savant, Maddy Savant, Braylee Reed, Trace Reed and Ace Edmonds; as well as extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman “Soap” Savant; her parents; siblings, Roland Fontenot, June Fontenot, Jessie Fontenot, and Tony Fontenot.
Carrying Helen to her final resting place will be pallbearers, Ronald Dies, Gary Rehms, Garrett Savant, Blake Melancon, Darren Minix, and Travis Edmonds. Honorary pallbearer will be Rodney “Blackie” Fontenot.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Thursday, June 11th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and again on Friday, June 12th from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Thursday with Deacon Jason Lavergne.
