EUNICE~It is with heavy hearts that the family of Herman “Soap” Savant announces his passing on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette at the age of 82. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 18, 2021 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary cemetery with Father Sal Istre, Celebrant.
Herman, known as “Soap” by all who knew and loved him, enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He also loved fishing and camping, always passing a good time. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Soap is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Helen Jane Savant of Eunice; sons, Mitch Savant and wife, Cathy of Houston, TX and Greg Savant and Nettie Lee of Lafayette; daughter, Paula Savant Rehms and husband, Gary of Vidalia; four grandchildren, Jeigh Reed, Ashley Melancon, Garrett Savant, and Bonnie Edmonds; one step grandchild, Lane Rehms; nine great grandchildren, Anna Grace Bonvillain, Adelyn Bonvillain, Beau Melancon, Zoey Melancon, Audrey Savant, Jaxon Savant, Maddy Savant, Braylee Reed, and Trace Reed; as well as extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Avey and Ester Guillory Savant.
Carrying Soap to his final resting place will be pallbearers, Garrett Savant, Greg Savant, Mitchell Savant, Gary Rehms, Travis Edmonds, and Blake Melancon. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Reed and Trace Reed.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Thursday, June 17th from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm and again on Friday, June 18th from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Thursday with Deacon Chuck Ortego.
