IOTA-With heavy hearts, the family of James “Dudley” Hebert, Sr. announces his passing on October 25, 2024, at Camelot Brookside in Jennings at the age of 92. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 28, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota. Burial will follow in the Reed Cemetery in Tee Mamou with Father Aubrey Guilbeau, Celebrant.
James, known as” Dudley’ to all who knew and loved him, was a cherished soul and beloved friend to many. He was born on December 1, 1931, in Iota, Louisiana to the late Frank and Eugenia Hebert. Dudley was truly one-of-a-kind. He had a playful nature and loved to joke around with everyone, but his true passion in life was music, particularly his guitar. Throughout his life, Dudley shared his talent far and wide, enchanting audiences across the country with his melodies that echoed the heart of his Cajun culture.
A proud advocate for his Cajun heritage, Dudley was a past member of the Cajun Music Association, celebrating and preserving the traditions that defined his roots. His love for people was evident in the countless ways he engaged with his community, always lending a helping hand and sharing his warm heart with those around him.
As we remember Dudley, let us celebrate the joy he brought into our lives through his laughter, music, and unwavering kindness. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
A cherished father, grandfather, and friend, Dudley is survived by his daughter, Melissa Hebert Cooper of Iota; his three grandchildren, April Reed and husband, Brent of Tee Mamou, Troy Hebert and wife, Christine of Iota, and Dana Hebert of Tee Mamou; his seven great grandchildren, Brianna Reed and Emma Reed, Derek Hebert, Devin Hebert, and Kaitlin Hebert, Alyssa Crochet, and Brett Crochet; his two great-great grandchildren, Wrenly Raine Lopez and Emmett James Hebert; daughter-in-law, Diana Hebert of Tee Mamou; as well as extended family and dear friends.
Dudley is preceded in death by his wife, Loyce Hebert; son, James Hebert, Jr.; parents; six siblings; and son-in-law, Shane Cooper.
The family invites friends and loved ones to gather for visitation at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Iota from 9:00 AM until time of services on Monday, October 28, 2024. A Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 AM by the Catholic Daughters.
Pallbearers carrying Dudley to his place of rest include, Troy Hebert, Derek Hebert, Devin Hebert, Brett Crochet, Brent Reed, Trevor Lopez. Honorary pallbearers include, Michael Guilbeau, Ayden Cooper, and Emmett Hebert.
