EUNICE~It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of John "Hugh" Bertrand announces his sudden passing on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at his home at the age of 73. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Deacon David Guillory officiating.

A proud veteran, Hugh served in the United States National Guard. He was a painter for over 50 years and over twenty of these years was with Ardoin's Funeral Homes, Sibille Funeral Homes and Lafond Ardoin Funeral Homes. He was a wonderful person and will be remembered for his gentle soul and a caring person who was loved by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and especially time spent with his grandchildren who were the apple of his eyes. Hugh will also be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Loretta "Flo" Bertrand of Eunice. His loving daughter and son-in-law, Kim B. Gaspard and husband Robert of Eunice; his two precious grandchildren, Michael and Lindsey Gaspard. He is also survived by his sister, Della Fontenot of Basile; as well as loving nieces, nephews extended family and dear friends. "The most painful goodbyes are the ones that are never said and never explained"

He is preceded in death by his parents, Linzy and Vinus LaFleur Bertrand; sister, Virginia B. Bellon; two infant brothers and a brother-in-law, Abney Fontenot. "While we are mourning the loss of a loved one, others are rejoicing to greet him."

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on Friday, September 25th from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm and again on Saturday, September 26th from 8:00 am until time of services. Deacon David Guillory will recite a Rosary at 6:30 pm Friday evening.
