EUNICE On Monday, December 05, 2022 John “Coach B” Burson, husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away at Eunice Manor with his loving family by his side. He was 73. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 09, 2022 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Father Nick Ware, Celebrant.
John known to many as “Coach B” was born on July 27, 1949 to Isaac Jackson and Marie Gussie Martin Burson in Crowley. He was a 1967 graduate of St. Edmund High School, 1971 graduate of USL, then began his teaching and coaching at Eunice High School. He was teaching Social Studies, coached football, girls’ basketball, softball and baseball at Eunice High School. He also coached American Legion baseball, as well as Eunice Little League baseball teams. He retired from teaching in 2012 and coaching in 2020. They retired his baseball jersey No 45 in April of 2021. He was inducted into the EHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. John began working as a part time sportswriter for Eunice News since the seventies and retired in 2019. An avid sports fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, New Orleans Saints as well as local and state teams.
“Coach B” will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him, especially his loving wife of thirty-six wonderful years, Sandifer Moore Burson of Eunice; sons and daughters-in-law, Willie Burson and his wife, Holli from Eunice and Brian Snorgrass and his wife, Staci from Baton Rouge; siblings, Jack Burson and wife, Gwen and Joan Burson all of Eunice, Sarah Clare and husband, Denis of France; sister-in-law, Deanna Burson of Baton Rouge; brother and sister-in-law ,Randall Moore and wife, Jeannie of Eunice; the joys of his life, his four grandchildren, Caiden Burson, Cole Burson, Cameron Burson, and Josie Snorgrass as well as numerous nieces, nephews, innumerable friends and former students.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert “Bob” Burson; sister, Ada Burson; sister-in-law, Myra Burson and father and mother-in-law, Jerome and Nelwyn Moore.
Carrying him to his resting place are, Scott Phillips, Mitch Fontenot, Danny Soileau, Casey Charlie, Robert Burson and Zac Burson; honorary, Austin and Dru Phillips and Coach Clarence Merricks; readers, Margaret Leger and Kristy McLemore; musicians, Connie Beaugh, pianist and Dwight Jodon, vocalist; gift bearers are his four grandchildren, Caiden, Cole, Cameron and Josie.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Thursday, December 8th from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Friday, December 9th from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Thursday by Deacon Chuck Ortego.
