EUNICE- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joseph “Jay” Lionel Deshotel announces his passing on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 78. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice with Deacon Chuck Ortego, officiating

As an avid and devoted sportsman, Jay spent his life in the woods or on the water, and he was a successful business owner in Eunice with over fifty years in the electrical, air-conditioning, and rental home business. He was also the founder and president of Eunice Cajun Hunting Club for over forty years, a VFW member, and a humble Vietnam Veteran. After his retirement, Jay continued to enjoy spending time with his wife and supporting his children’s and grandchildren’s events and passions.

He will be missed dearly by all especially his wife of 53 years, Janell Manuel Deshotel of Eunice; children, Lisa Deshotel Cunningham and husband Dr. Carson Cummingham, of Cape Girardeau MO, Denise Deshotel Aucoin and husband, Todd Aucoin of Eunice, and his brother Michael Deshotel and wife, Saundra of Morgan City;  brother-in-law, Louis Douget of Eunice; four grandchildren, Alex Deshotel, Olivia Bundick, Mia Bundick, and Camille Cunningham; step-grandchildren, Hunter, Heath, and Nicholas Aucoin; as well as extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Rosabelle Veillon Deshotel; sister, Roxie Deshotel Douget; and infant daughter, Ann Marie Deshotel.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Wednesday, December 21st from 10:00 am until time of services. Deacon Chuck Ortego will pray a Rosary at 1:30 pm on Wednesday.
