IOTA-With heavy hearts, the family of Lavonia Faye Hicks Fontenot announces her passing on August 25, 2024, at her home in Iota with loving family at her side, at the age of 82. A Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Northside Assembly of God in Crowley led by Pastor Johnnie Ray Fontenot.
Lavonia was born on August 24, 1942, in Oakdale, Louisiana. She loved reading and working for her community, but her greatest love was for her family. Lavonia’s favorite color was pink and yellow roses were her favorite flower. She also enjoyed dining out, always ordering water with her meal and ending with ice cream. She was the former director of Iota Christian Care Services and former owner and operator of Lavonia’s Record Shack in Iota. Lavonia was the best wife, mother, and Granny ever.
A cherished wife, devoted mother, sister, and grandmother, Lavonia will be missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her husband of forty-four years, Patrick W. Fontenot of Iota; her six children, John McClelland and wife, Lisa of Bunkie, Roma Lyne Bergeron of Jennings, Joseph Nelson “Bubba” Bergeron, Jr. of Iota, Sabrina Ann Lewis and husband, Jackie of Burleson, TX, Cody Bergeron and wife, Shelly of Egan, and Shawna Lupinacci and husband, T.J. of Fort Worth, TX; brothers, Ted Hicks and wife, Connie of Baton Rouge, and Jeffery Francois and wife, Sandra of Eunice; sisters, Dianne Pommier and husband, Darrell of Jarreau, and Adele Francois Jeanes of Mansfield, TX; ten grandchildren, Katie Duplechain, Jacob Lewis, Stevie Beth Lewis, Cory Bergeron, Austin “A.J.” Bergeron, John-Michael McClelland, Jacob McClelland, Joni McClelland, Alyssa Bergeron, and Thomas Lupinacci; eleven great grandchildren, John Patrick Fruge, Leah Kate Fruge, Ryker Addington, Garic Addington, Julianne McClelland, Lane McClelland, Jolene McClelland, Andrew McClelland, Brooklyn Coulon, Carson Coulon, and Jett Wall. Lavonia was also a bonus grandmother to many other children and will be missed by extended family and dear friends.
Lavonia is preceded in death by her beloved mother; Nina Jackson Hicks; infant, twin daughters, Marie and Mary Bergeron; brother, Clyde Earl “Slug” Hicks; and maternal grandmother, Myrtle Faye Brabham.
In honoring her wishes, the family invites friends and loved ones to gather for visitation at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Iota from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
