EUNICE- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Madelon Michael Chachere announced her passing on Sunday morning March 11, 2018 at her home with her children by her side. She was 92.

Madelon was a devoted wife of 58 years to R. Eldon Chachere, a retired coach and educator, a loving mother to five children, Barbara Catherine Chachere of Eunice, Danny M. Chachere of Mandeville, Robby Chachere and wife Donna of Eunice, T.C. Chachere and wife Arlene of Eunice and Tina McKissick and husband Rod of Opelousas, and the sweetest and most generous MiMi to eleven grandchildren, Dr. Danny Michael Chachere, II and wife Amanda of Houston Texas, Christy Lohmann and husband Harold of Baton Rouge, Brittany Cormier and husband Caleb of Eunice, Derek Chachere and wife Megan of Iota, Ashley Chachere and fiancé Malcolm Saltzman of Eunice, Tyler Chachere and wife Andrea of Eunice, Alyson Kora and husband Jacob of Eunice, Wesley Chachere and wife Hannah of Baton Rouge, William Chachere of Eunice, Kathryn McKissick and Kurt McKissick of Opelousas and ten great grandchildren, Ellie, Madeline, Addyson, Jax, Brandt, Parker, Hayes, Sadie, Millie and Remy and a loving sister to brother, Charles J. Michael and his wife, Margo, of Houston, Texas.

Madelon lived a full and active life juggling a family and a career. She was a retired legal secretary and court reporter for the St. Landry Parish 27th Judicial District court having worked for the Honorary Judge Isom Guillory for 42 years. Nicknamed "St. Madeleon" by her friends and co-workers, Madelon was known for demonstrating extreme patience and always sharing a kind word and warm smile to all who crossed her path. Anger was rarely seen in her personality.

Madelon enjoyed many things in life. "Mat" as she was frequently called by her children, was a wonderful cook, learning her way around the kitchen from her mother, especially her old Lebanese recipes for kibby and grape leaves. She loved cooking for the family and was always offering to anyone who visited something to eat or drink. Madelon loved to go and her late husband often teased her calling her a gypsy. She rarely missed an opportunity to attend a grandchild's school event, church mass, sporting event, graduation ceremony or party. In her spare time, Madelon enjoyed traveling, shopping and eating out with her little group of lady friends. Her regular outings to the beauty shop and casino on Thursdays were seldom missed. She had a passion for reading. The daily newspaper and the latest copy of Southern Living Magazine, Home and Gardens and recipe books could always be found next to her chair. She shared a special bond with her long time friend of 73 years, Rosalind Chachere, who was also her sister-in-law and neighbor sharing many a coke and conversation through the years.
Through the years, Madelon also served her church and community being a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Daughters Association, the Eunice American Legion Auxiliary Post 129 and the St. Landry Legal Secretary Association along with countless hours of volunteer work being a Coaches' wife.

Madelon was preceded in death by her parents. Faris Edger Michael and Mamie Solomon Michael of Natchitoches, her husband, R. Eldon Chachere and infant daughter, Barbara Catherine Chachere of Eunice, and her brother Faris Michael, Jr. of Natchitoches.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff of Heart of Hospice and her personal caregivers for their assistance during the last few months of her life. A special thank you is extended to Nancy Thomas, a dear friend, whose compassion and service went well beyond being a caregiver.
