EUNICE~ It is with heavy hearts that the family of Melinda Boenig announces her passing on Friday, June 6, 2025, at her home at the age of 69. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum with Father Dugas, officiating.
Born June 13, 1955, in Eunice, LA, Melinda was the cherished daughter of the late Frank and Dorine Atkinson Pitre. Melinda dedicated a significant part of her life to education, serving as a beloved teacher at St. Edmund High School from 1983 until her retirement in 2005. With a passion for learning, she inspired countless students through her teachings in accounting, business math, typing, and shorthand. Melinda also took great pride in her role as the orchestrator of the school yearbook, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and community spirit.
After retiring, Melinda continued to nurture her love for fellowship by actively participating in her Come Lord Jesus group. She not only attended the meetings but often opened her home to host them, creating a welcoming space where friends could gather in faith and friendship. Melinda's dedication to her family, her students, and her community will always be remembered, and her spirit will live on in the hearts she touched.
Melinda will be missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her husband of forty six years, Kenneth Boenig of Basile; her sons, Christopher Boenig and wife, Alison of Madisonville and Matthew Boenig and wife, Sarah of Broussard; her daughter, Kelly B. D’Aquilla and husband, Andrew of St. Francisville; her sister, Brenda Torrence and husband, Gene of Baton Rouge; her eight grandchildren, Brady and Anna Boenig, Kennedy and Eleanor Boenig, and Josephine, William, Collin, and Andrew “Drew” D’Aquilla; as well as extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother, James “Jimmy” Pitre.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 3:00pm until 8:00pm, and again on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 9:00am until time of services. Deacon Gary Gaudin will pray a rosary at 6:00pm on Sunday.
