Richard or ''Dick'' as he was called by family and friends was a veteran of the United States Army. He served in the Korean War at the age of 16, where he was a on the front line, and became Master Sergeant at the age of 18. During the war he was wounded, captured, and was on the death march, and later escaped. He retired after 55 years from TransCanada, working throughout various name changes of Union Texas, CSX, Texas Gas, and Enron. Most of all, he loved his family especially his grandchildren; he had a special nickname for each one. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Ethel J. Miller of Eunice; two sons, Richard L. Miller, Jr. and fiancé, Cheryl Dixon of Abbeville and Gregory K. Miller and wife, Kayla of Jennings; daughter, Melissa Whitney and husband, Dale of Iota; brothers, Paul Miller, Don Miller and Tommy Miller, all of Ohio; two sisters, Jeannie Miller and Shirley Miller, both of Ohio; thirteen grandchildren, Shane Kelly, Angel Case, Brandon Miller, Erica Piazza, Josh LeJeune, Christopher Miller, Lindsey Miller, Courtney LeJeune, Amelia LeJeune, Taylor Istre, Ben Miller, Emilie Miller and Annslee Miller; three great grandchildren and extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Dorothy Wheats Miller; son, Ray Miller; brothers, Ernie and Gary Miller; and grandsons, Randy Fontenot and Nicholaus LeJeune.
