Shelby Prather

EUNICE~ For 95 years, Shelby Prather graced his family and friends with love. On, December 29, 2022 Shelby Prather passed away in the comfort of his home with loving family by his side. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 02, 2022 at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Brother Donald Hintze and Brother Josh Johnson, officiating.

Shelby was born on July 28, 1927 in Richard to the late Arthur and Ola Whittington Prather. He spent most of his career working in the oilfield. He started as a roughneck and worked himself up to a drilling superintendent. He retired when he was seventy years old. He liked doing yard work but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his wife, Nellie M. Prather of Eunice; seven children, Gale Prather of Opelousas, Debbie Hintze and husband, Donald of Clute, TX, Oneita Smith of Basile, Juanita Harrington of Eunice, Mark Prather and wife, Sandra of Mire, Kenneth Prather and wife, Frances of Maurice and Curtiss Prather of Eunice; brother, Floyd Prather of Eunice and sister-in-law Norma Prather of Eunice.  He will forever be remembered by his twenty grandchildren, Phillip Hintze, Josh Hintze, Marie Myers, Kimberly Bihm, Eddie Smith, Kellie Schexneider, Jennifer LeBleu, Lauren LeBlanc, Kayla Bercier, Jared Prather, Michael Prather, Caroline Prather, Allie Prather, Bradley Prather, Theresa Prather, Ashley Farmer, Erika Jones, Dustin Prather, Vanessa Aguillard and Duane Ruiz.; thirty -seven great grandchildren and as well as nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He was proceeded in death by his son; Richard Prather; his children’s mother, Oneida Prather; parents; siblings, Napoleon, Clarence, Clyde, Willis, Vernon, Melvin Prather, Ruby Book, Pearl Young, Edna Deville and Isabella Friend.

At the request of family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, January 2 ^nd from 9:00 am until time of services.
