EUNICE-A wonderful father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, Shirley Soileau will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Shirley also known as S.R. passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2009 in Hammond. He was 79. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum with Father Josh Guillory officiating.
Shirley was a veteran of the United States Navy and participated in the Korean War. He ran track for ULL formerly SLI in the late 1940s. He was also an usher of St. Anthony Catholic Church for over 40 years as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus. The things that brought the most joy in life were being with his family and friends but most of all hunting, fishing, working at his farm as well as enjoying the company of his beloved dogs, Colonel I, II, and III.
He left those who knew him with warm memories to cheer us and fill our hearts. He is survived by his four children, Reed Soileau and his wife, Krista of Houston TX, Renee Soileau Carrier and her husband, Patrick of Kingsland, TX, Kirk Soileau and his wife, Marie Noonie of Hammond, and Brad Soileau and his wife, Anita of Mandeville; his brother, L.B. Brown and his wife, Bea of Eunice; his eight grandchildren, Jeremy and Brian Carrier, Brandon Soileau, Nicholas and his wife, Brandi, Jennifer and Lydia Soileau, Alex and Allison Soileau; and his one grandchild, Timothy Carrier.
Now he rests in heaven with his beloved parents, Theovae and Lydia Fuselier Soileau, his grandson, Jacob Carrier, his great granddaughter, Robin Carrier and his brother, Horice Soileau.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Eunice on Friday, August 21, 2009 from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Saturday, August 22, 2009 from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Friday evening.
The family would like to extend there graditude to many friends, especially, Winston Fuselier, Dr. Jack Miller, R.P. Fontenot, Margie Prudhomme and all other friends also known as Bill for their love and support.
