On Sunday, August 2, 2020, Sylvia Ann O’Pry Bourque passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was 84 years old. Sylvia was the mother of seven children, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Mom was a great cook and loved preparing meals for everyone. That love led her to enter the workforce later in life, after having raised all of her children. At the age of 49, Mom studied to earn her GED, something she had always wanted to do. With GED in hand, she then immediately began taking correspondence courses through the University of Florida, earning a Dietary Manager’s degree only one year later. Mom worked as a Dietary Manager at Eunice Manor Nursing Home, and several other nursing homes in Jennings and Baton Rouge, until her retirement. She loved planning meals and preparing special treats for all her nursing home residents and staff members. After retiring, she and dad traveled the country, as well as parts of Canada and Mexico, in their RV. She was always excited to tell us stories of their travels and share pictures of the places they had visited.
