BASILE~In loving memory of W. R. "Nookie" Stockwell who sadly passed away on Saturday, September 07, 2019 at Oak Lane Wellness and Rehabilitation at the age 91. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel in Basile. Burial will follow in the Protestant Cemetery with Pastor Laura Nusbaum officiating.
"Nookie" as he was known to many was a 1945 Valedictorian graduate of Basile High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a farmer for thirty five years, a carpenter for fourteen years and ran a muffler shop for four years. He had the first catfish farm in this area. He was a Swine Festival King in 2000 as well as a basketball referee both before and after the LA Referee Association was formed. Nookie was a Mason and Shriner, he was a 50+year member of the Elton Lodge#349-Past Master 9 times, Perpetual member of Harmony Lodge#410(Eunice), 32nd Degree Mason and charter member of the Habibi Shriners of Lake Charles, DIVAN, past member of the Evangeline Shrine Club of Lafayette and clown unit, Charter member of Acadia Shrine Club (Eunice) and of Jeff Davis Shrine Club as well as a sponsor for children to the Shiners Hospital and College Scholarships. But above all this he was a loving father, grandfather and friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him especially his three children, Michael "Mike" Stockwell and wife, Donna, William "Bill" Stockwell and friend, Karen and Sandi Bergeron and husband, Kevin all of Basile; the joys of his life his thirteen grandchildren, Kayla, Emily, Leah, Taylor, Whitni, Daniel, Crystal, Ashley, Anita, Greg, Morgan, Storm and Tye and twenty five great grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Collene H. Stockwell; parents, Leroy Stockwell and Vena Clark Wallace; grandparents, Jodie and Ella Clark Stockwell and a brother, Russell Stockwell.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Basile on Thursday, September 12th from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Friday, September 13th from 6:00 am until time of services.
Carrying Nookie to his final resting place will be Russell "Dinkey" Stockwell, Jr., Kevin Bergeron, Seth Decoux, Daniel Bergeron, Mark Arceneaux, Gordie McManus, Davis LeDoux, II and Jack McClelland.
