Betty Strachan

July 23, 1948 — June 6, 2020

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Betty Stahl Strachan announces her passing on Saturday, June 6, 2020 in the comfort of her home with loving family by her side.  She was 71.  A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Ardoin’s Funeral Home with Fr. Hampton Davis officiating.  Family will welcome visitors on Tuesday,  at 10:00 am till services.

Along with her many accomplishments and endeavors throughout her fulfilling life, Betty worked diligently to instill wisdom and knowledge into future generations.  Her first teaching job was at Evangeline Academy in Vidrine, LA, where she taught from 1969 – 1976.  As a social studies and science teacher, she was able to reach students of various grades, encouraging them to go far in life through their pursuit of knowledge.  During the fall of 1976, Betty began teaching at Sacred Heart School in Ville Platte, LA.  Instructing classes filled with eager fourth graders, Betty once again worked hard to help her students flourish.  Following a move to Jefferson Parish, Betty began to teach sixth graders at William Hart Elementary in the fall of 1983.  Betty truly encompassed the traits that make an impactful educator.  She was brilliant, determined, kind, and understanding.  She wonderfully helped to develop the minds of students for many years.

Betty is survived by her mother, Hilda Stahl of Eunice; her two daughters, Cherie F. Barnes and husband, Joey of Ville Platte and Melanie Fontenot of Texas; two step-sons, Jim Strachan and wife, Nerita and John Strachan and wife, Linda all of Illinois; her brother, Daniel Stahl and wife, Terri of Eunice;  five grandchildren, Collin, Jacob and William Barnes, and Evalina and Andrew Strachan; She also leaves many other family members and friends who will miss her.

She is preceded in death by her father, Ivan Stahl and husband, Michael Strachan.
