Harold was an educator who grew up in the rural community of L’anse Meg, Louisiana. He graduated from Mamou High School in 1946 and Southwestern Louisiana Institute (currently UL of Lafayette) 1950. He began his teaching career in Bastrop, LA which was interrupted by a four- year stint in the U. S. Air Force. He later received his Master’s Degree from LSU in January of 1958. He taught at Eunice High School before becoming a supervisor for the St. Landry Parish School Board until his retirement in 1988. During this time, he was honored as LSCA State Counselor Supervisor of the year 1976-77. He then pursued his “real career” as a cattleman in his hometown of L’anse Meg. He managed the 7-L Cattle Farm where he bred and raised a registered herd of Simmental cattle for more than 30 years. It was 2021 when he decided to retire from his second career at the age of 92.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jeanette Brinkman Landreneau, and children, Dr. Joseph Landreneau of Alexandria, LA, Dr. John Landreneau and wife, Jenny of Gonzales, LA, Julie Landreneau-Barrilleaux and husband, Dr. Darren Barrilleaux of Huntsville, AL, and Dr. Lori Landreneau, of Opelousas, LA.  He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Adrian Landreneau, Dr. Eric Landreneau, Chris Landreneau, Joseph Landreneau, Dr. Mark Landreneau, Elizabeth Landreneau, Aimee Landreneau Forman, Alaina Landreneau Weber, Robert Morrow, Dr. Ashley Morrow Schuller, Ryan Smith, Kathryn Smith, Harrison Smith, 24 great grandchildren and a loving sister, Kathleen L. Aucoin.

Mr. Landreneau was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise L. Hanks and his parents, John and Elizabeth Landreneau.

Mr. Landreneau was so proud to be a father, grandpa and great-grandpa. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren will remember him as a loving, affectionate father and grandpa. He was always a very good listener with a quiet and steady presence in their lives.  He regularly attended school events, sporting events, graduations, weddings, and baptisms.  Every family visit was a special time with him, and he loved hearing about the activities in their lives.  He was always happy to entertain at the farm with a ride on the four-wheeler or the tractor. It was a tradition to go to the farm and have him call the animals over so the children could pet and feed them. It was his pleasure to share his love of animals and the outdoors with all.  He will be remembered with love and happiness.

Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Friday, September 30, from 10 a.m. to  9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of services.
