EUNICE- Our hearts are filled with sadness as our family announces the passing of our loving Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend, James “Robert” Mire on November 2, 2019 in Opelousas at the age of 71. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Rite of Committal will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Father Austin Leger, Celebrant.
James, known as Robert by all, was a true outdoorsman. He harvested crawfish all his life, enjoyed hunting, and loved fishing with a passion. He was currently employed with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department as a Corrections Deputy. He also did carpentry work, along with painting, and in his younger years he worked in the oilfield.
Robert will be greatly missed by his loved ones, especially his daughters, Denise Mire of Opelousas, and Lorraine Vidrine and husband, Jeremy of Bayou Chicot; brothers, Wilbert Mire and wife, Loma of Church Point, Gerald Mire of Arnaudville, and Lennese Mire of Eunice; sisters, Charlene Mallet of Leonville, Beulah Soileau and husband, Berchman of Opelousas, and Connie Cole of Lawtell; six grandchildren, Tiffany Rutledge, Jourdain Pellerin, Jared Pellerin, Kari Castille, Jaelie Vidrine, and Jace Vidrine; six great grandchildren, London, Mikey, and Kylie Darbonne, Kole and Weslyn Pellerin, and Lawson Pellerin; as well as extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence J. and Eugenie Sonnier Mire; brother, Clarence Mire, Jr.; and sister, Thelma Bodin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family in Robert’s memory.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, November 4th from 4:00pm until 10:00pm, and again on Tuesday, November 5th from 8:00am until time of services. Father Austin Leger will recite a rosary Monday evening at 7:00 pm.
