Lee Sittig

EUNICE~Our hearts are heavy today as we mourn the sudden passing of our loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, Lee Sittig at the age of 90. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary cemetery with Father Hampton Davis, Celebrant.

Born in 1930, Lee Sittig was one of 5 brothers and 4 sisters that were raised on the family farm in Ritchie Louisiana. He attended Eunice High School and was a top athlete. He could have gone on to play football in college but opted to become a roughneck in the oil business. Among his greatest life accomplishments, Lee was drafted and served 14 months of duty in the Korean War as a tank commander and upon completion of his service he was recognized as a Master Sargent. He was a true American! After completing his duty, he came back home and married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Carolyn Aguillard from Eunice Louisiana. Lee and Carolyn went on to raise 3 children, Greg Sittig, Dr. Kevin Sittig and Vivian Sittig Colvill. He was immensely proud of his children. As Lee’s skills grew in the oil patch, he became a consultant petroleum engineer and enjoyed many successful years in the oil business, making many friends and loyal customers along the way. Lee was a die-hard football fan, particularly of the Notre Dame Pios as he truly enjoyed the personal relationships, he maintained with the Pios coaches and players. He also loved racehorses and the thrill of watching the thoroughbreds run a race. He simply loved winning! He was a man of conviction and great pride and there was nothing he could not accomplish. He cared deeply for those around him, his family, his friends, his neighbors and anyone in need. He enjoyed helping people and gave much back to this world. He loved his brothers and sisters deeply, and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gave him unending pride and joy. His family kept ownership of the family farm in Ritchie and one of his favorite hobbies was cutting the grass at the farm with his brothers, shooting doves and boiling crawfish with his extended family on Good Friday. Lee will be greatly missed by all that knew him, but his legacy will live on! Lee lived a life that was full, and he “did it my way”. You did it Lee, may you Rest in Peace in Heaven reunited with Carolyn who will always be your guardian angel!

Lee’s memory will live on in all who knew and loved him, especially his three children, daughter, Vivian Colvill and husband, Chip of Houston, TX: his two sons, Greg Sittig and wife, Marcey of Salt Lake City, UT, and Dr. Kevin Sittig and wife, Terri of Shreveport; he dearly loved his eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; surviving, three brothers, Fred Sittig of Sulphur, Charles Sittig, and Dale Sittig and wife, Celine,  all of Eunice; surviving  three sisters, Barbara Sittig of Lake Charles, Francis Fakouri of Baton Rouge, and Katherine Miller of Eunice; as well as extended family and friends. “The most painful goodbyes are the ones that are never said and never explained”

He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Aguillard Sittig; parents, Walter Conrad and Helen Matte Sittig; and siblings, John D. Sittig and Shirley Fontenot.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Wednesday, May 26th from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Thursday, May 27th from 8:00 am until time of services.  A Rosary will be prayed at 7pm on Wednesday with Deacon Chuck Ortego.
