January 20, 1931 — January 19, 2021

Basile

BASILE~ Pauline, born January 20, 1931, met Jesus face to face one day shy of her 90th birthday with family at her side, at the age of 89. A Graveside service will be held at Shiloh cemetery in Dry Creek at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 23, 2021 with Brother Johnny Howell officiating.

She was a 1948 graduate of Dry Creek High School and she was the 1947 Beauregard Parish Fair Queen. She married her beloved Fred soon after high school and they eventually moved to Basile to establish Howell’s Refrigeration business where they worked together for 31 years and raised their family. During that time, Pauline ran a popular snow cone stand inside the store where she also sold jewelry and Merle Norman Cosmetics. Pauline was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post.  She along with Fred were members of the First Baptist Church and faithfully served on the hostess committee and was a constant presence at church services. She loved to visit the sick and shut-ins and had a heart for nursing home residents. Pauline and Fred were faithful visitors at the Basile Care Center. She became an avid bird watcher and often visited bird sanctuaries. She developed a love for sewing and soon became a master quilter, designing and sewing prize winning quilts that she shared with her family and friends. These quilts are treasures to all who were blessed with receiving them. After retiring, she and Fred spent half of their time in Dry Creek at the family farm where they fished, gardened and cooked the best dumplings and homemade biscuits. They visited with family and friends, and even found time to do a little traveling.
