Basile

BASILE-With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Raymond Ray Klumpp, age 79, on Friday, January 22, 2021 at home surrounded by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Father Kennan Brown, Celebrant.

Ray became a full-time farmer when he graduated from high school in 1959. In those early years, he used his father’s equipment and land and was mostly involved in planting rice. He married his 2nd grade sweetheart, Shirley, and together they continued to farm and raise 3 children. Ray was a devoted husband to Shirley for 45 years and Cassie for 10 years. Anyone who knew him would agree that he was a character. The humor with which he related the adventures and woes of farming and equipment were legendary. He was also known for his ability to fix almost anything. He was a generous man with his time and skills, always willing to help neighbors and other farmers. Nothing made Ray smile more than his three grandchildren and he was looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild. He will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Cassie R. Klumpp of Tepetate; daughters, Amber K. Taylor of Lafayette and Kelly K. Renner and husband, Joel of Houston;  his daughter-in-law, Dana Klumpp of Tepetate; sisters, Hilda Ortego of Elton and Wilda Fontenot and husband, Pat of Tepetate; grandchildren, Brandon Taylor of Baton Rouge, Matthew Klumpp and wife, Toni of Lake Charles, and Samantha Klumpp of Breaux Bridge; and extended family and friends.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mabel Stroder Klumpp; sister, Lilda Lampo; his wife, Shirley Cowart Klumpp; and son, Carter Klumpp.

Visitation will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Monday, January 25, 2021 from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be held at 9:00 am.
