Rev. Melvin "Pop" Finley

EUNICE~It is with heavy hearts that the family of Rev. Melvin “Pop” Finley announces his passing on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 in the comfort of his home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 81. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Abundant Life Assembly of God in Rayne. Burial will follow in the Maxie Cemetery with Pastor Tod Finley officiating.

Melvin, known as ‘Pop’ to all, started his career as a boiler maker/welder in Shreveport, Louisiana. He then became a Pastor and ministered at Oak Grove Assembly of God for seven years, Dewitt Arkansas Assembly of God for two years, and lastly at Abundant Life Assembly of God in Rayne for forty years. He found his calling in ministering and he loved working and being a Chaplain at the Rayne Jail. Melvin loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an avid LSU sports fan, especially football. He leaves behind his loving wife of sixty-two years, Betty Finley of Maxie; sons, Tony Finley and wife, Karen of Lake Charles and Tod Finley and wife Melanie of Crowley, and Rich Ryfun and wife, Naomi, whom he considered his son; daughter, Donna Richard and husband, Steven of Maxie; grandchildren, Laura Irons-Finley, Zachary Finley, Benjamin Finley, Matthew Finley, Sophie Finley, Madison Finley, Carly Ryfun, Gracie Ryfun, and Ty Ryfun; as well as extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, R.J. Finley and Sarah Wiggins Finley; brothers, Hershel Finley and Fobi Finley; and sister, Joy Wallace.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Abundant Life Assembly of God, 400 Gossen Memorial Dr., Rayne, La. 70578 on Saturday, July 24th from 9:00 am until time of services.
