Roger Young

EUNICE- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Roger Young announces his passing on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice at the age of 97. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated on Friday, April 9, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Eunice at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Pastor Brent Shoalmire officiating.

Roger dedicated his life to education for many decades earning an undergraduate and Master’s degree in Education. He served as a high school English teacher and also as the first principal of Glendale Elementary where he served for over two decades until his retirement.  Upon retirement he was elected and served as a long-standing member of the St. Landry School Board for over thirty years until his retirement.  He is also a retired board member of the Savoy Swords Water System and of the Acadian Baptist Center Board.

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Eunice where he served as a Sunday School teacher until his death. He enjoyed cooking, raising farm animals and music, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nettie Aucoin Young of Eunice; his two sons, Roger Blake Young and wife, Mindy of Atlanta, GA and their children, Noah and Emma Young, and Ward Young of Fort Lauderdale, FL; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Effie Smith Young and his six siblings.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Eunice on Thursday, April 8th from 4:00pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will resume at First Baptist Church in Eunice on Friday, April 9th from 9:00 am until time of services.
